There are several simple decorative ideas you can use for an outdoor garden party that don't require the patience (or the bank account) of Martha Stewart. Check out our inspirations for simple, beautiful springtime decorations.
An Herbaceous Centerpiece
If you don't grow herbs of your own, you can get small potted herbs at your local nursery or home improvement center. Find large terra cotta pots in different shapes, and repot six or seven different herbs into one of the large terra cotta pots. This is most stunning when you use herbs that vary in texture - some flowering herbs, some with berries, etc. It makes a hopeful springtime centerpiece that you can then give away as a game prize or a favor.
Individual Tulip Pots
Another one of spring's most powerful flowers is the tulip. Beautiful either as placecard holders or to line long, rectangular tables, place one tulip in one miniature terra cotta pot that has been filled with sand. If you want to get really crafty, paint the flower pots springtime colors before filling. Placecards can rest against tulip stem, can be secured in the sand, or can be tied around the flower pot with a piece of pastel colored organza ribbon. Whatever design you fancy, tulips definitely bring a breath of fresh spring air wherever you place them.
Back-of-the-Chair Buds
One beautiful way to spruce up the look of the whole event is to decorate chair backs with flowers. Attatch floral wire to single buds of spring flora such as anemones, tulips, or daffodils and then wrap them around the top of a cane-backed chair. Tie a piece of ribbon around the base of the bud to make a bow that hangs beneath the bud. Or, for a more formal look, wrap wide pieces of organza ribbon around the backs of chairs horizontally and tie a bow tightly in the center of the back. Place a single bud of your favorite spring flower in the knot before you make the bow. Make sure ribbons are secure with either floral wire or a snug fit; otherwise when guests are seated, the ribbons will slide down the backs of chairs.
